Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide. Far from just an ovarian condition, PCOS is an endocrine-metabolic condition governed by insulin resistance, systemic micro-inflammation, and hyperandrogenism.
1. The Insulin-Androgen Connection
When cells become resistant to insulin, the pancreas compensates by secreting higher amounts of insulin. Elevated insulin stimulates the theca cells in the ovaries to overproduce testosterone and androstenedione, suppressing luteinizing hormone (LH) surges and stalling follicle maturation.
2. The 40:1 Myo to D-Chiro Inositol Ratio
Inositol is a pseudovitamin acting as a secondary messenger for insulin. Multiple clinical randomized trials demonstrate that supplementing with a physiological 40:1 ratio of Myo-Inositol (2,000 mg twice daily) to D-Chiro-Inositol (50 mg twice daily) significantly improves:
- Spontaneous ovulatory cycle frequency within 12–16 weeks
- Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR indices
- Free testosterone levels and hirsutism markers
- Oocyte (egg) morphological quality in IVF cycles
